Jean Paul Gaultier's S/S 2012 Couture collection became a major dedication to our dear Amy with colorful beehive hair, dramatic cat eyes, and 50s styled body-con garments. With all the effort Gaultier put into displaying how much of a style icon Amy truly was, it seems as if her spirit and personality lived through the clothes.
I, as I'm sure many others, loved the funky-ness of it all and felt like it really represented her in a good light but, unfortunately, her father disagreed.
“The family was upset to see those pictures.....we’re still grieving for her loss, and we’ve had a difficult week with the six-month anniversary of Amy’s death. “It portrays a view of Amy when she was not at her best, and glamorizes some of the more upsetting times in her life.” -Mitch Winehouse
Here's video and photography from the show:
Um, can I have that second striped blazer? Love!
I'm still trying to understand the veils at the finale. Bridal? ...Funeral?
Knowing Gaultier's intentions and seeing that it wasn't a blatant display of her struggle with alcoholism and other drugs, do you feel the collection was insensitive? Or an appropriate celebration of her life and style?
