Amy Winehouse-Inspired Collection by Jean Paul Gaultier

Jean Paul Gaultier's S/S 2012 Couture collection became a major dedication to our dear Amy with colorful beehive hair, dramatic cat eyes, and 50s styled body-con garments. With all the effort Gaultier put into displaying how much of a style icon Amy truly was, it seems as if her spirit and personality lived through the clothes.
I, as I'm sure many others, loved the funky-ness of it all and felt like it really represented her in a good light but, unfortunately, her father disagreed.
“The family was upset to see those pictures.....we’re still grieving for her loss, and we’ve had a difficult week with the six-month anniversary of Amy’s death. “It portrays a view of Amy when she was not at her best, and glamorizes some of the more upsetting times in her life.” -Mitch Winehouse

Here's video and photography from the show:

Um, can I have that second striped blazer? Love!

I'm still trying to understand the veils at the finale. Bridal? ...Funeral?

Knowing Gaultier's intentions and seeing that it wasn't a blatant display of her struggle with alcoholism and other drugs, do you feel the collection was insensitive? Or an appropriate celebration of her life and style?

Job Turned New Fav Store: Uptown Cheapskate

So I've been working at this new store in the area called Uptown Cheapskate and it's easily the best job I've ever had. Uptown is a resale store [similar to Plato's Closet, but much, much better] that buys gently used clothes from its customers in exchange for cash or store credit. It also gets its inventory from different vendors including my favvvvorite, Urban Outfitters. You can get ALL kinds of designer clothes from Uptown at considerably lower prices and the condition of them will be like brand new. Since it's a resale store, we get in new clothes all day, every day.
Here are some of my purchases from the store:

Nude Steve Madden handbag--$20

Suede Urban Outfitters wedges--$20

Badgley Mischka stilettos--probably originally around $200 & I paid $40

H&M jacket--$14

Urban Outfitters vest: $10

Olive blazer-- $14>

Wide-legged Joe's Jeans--$34 ...if you wear Joe's, you know they run about in the $100s...we have plenty for way cheaper

J.Crew corduroys--- $12

Kenar top-- $8

Urban Outfitters layered tank-- $8

Urban Outfitters ruffled tank-- $5

Urban Outfitters lace top-- $8

F21 sheer layered top-- $5

Urban Outfitters sheer button up-- $12

Old Navy silk tank-- on sale for $2

Michael Kors top: $11

Joe's skinny jeans [my fav]: $34

Men's Express sweater: $11

The Limited exaggerated shoulder top: $7

Urban Outfitters Jumpsuit-- came in with the tag still on it, originally $68, got it for $13

Some of the prices I had to guess on, but just know they were cheap!
As students, we all need a little extra cash every now & then, so I definitely would encourage you to clean out your closets of all the stuff you don't wear anymore [in excellent condition, no stains or holes] and bring them by to sell. The other week my sister got $85 for all the clothes she no longer wanted. Skip Goodwill & get some cash for your stuff!
We've gotten thousands of new customers since the store opened back in late July that bring in some great clothes, so come check it out!
1/19 thru 1/22/12 we're having a sale: 10% off EVERYTHING in the store!
If you've yet to shop at Uptown Cheapskate, you're definitely missing out.

Wanted to change it up with a play on line & texture. I got this burgundy pleated maxi skirt for Christmas from my sis and I love it! The knitted vest is another fav, though sometimes it can be hard to find a shirt to wear with it. One of my first church outfits of 2012, enjoy!

The bag was a bit of a wild card but I like it!
