Bey's Paris Looks

This girl has been on point style-wise as of late, but her latest single was a flop for me :-/
Check her out:

So, for Easter brunch with her beau, Bey stepped out in this two-toned polka dot dress by Marc Jacobs from his Fall 2011 collection and some black peep toe Louboutins. I think the colors are definitely more Fall-appropriate and I'm not sure if I would wear this for Easter, but she looked haute nonetheless!

The mogul looked stunning in this Gucci dress posing for a spread in Harper's Bazaar on the balcony of the Ritz hotel. Some say she's noticeably lost some weight in recent months, but I don't really notice much of a difference.

Bey is pictured here in the popular Louboutin Mary Jane Platform pumps [also worn by Kim K., Selita Banks, and Jennifer Hudson], layered denim and a leather bomber, and khaki shorts.

She looked great in this dope Roland Mouret jumpsuit, but appeared to have a little trouble with the double-sided tape used to stick down some of that side cleavage. Quick question though: Are you all over this "bed head" trend or is it still cool?

The Making of the Collection

Sorry my sketches are so sloppy! I didn't get around to taking the time to draw more professional ones. I did all the dresses using measurements only--I didn't make or use any patterns, except for the pattern pieces to make sleeves and arm holes. It took a lot of fittings with each model [also because I had to switch out most of my models by the time of the show!] Haha. But I started really early, around September/October. I wish I hadn't procrastinated because I ended up working until a couple of days before the show, which is what I didn't want to do. I'm glad how everything turned out, nonetheless!

I'm already thinking of ideas for next year's show and I really feel like I'll find my inspiration and figure out my theme while I'm in New York this summer. This show has been my biggest accomplishment yet, and I'm looking forward to doing many more!

Celeb Fashion at the 2011 Coachella Music Festival

Rih looked grungy chic in cut off denim shorts [which seemed to be a staple item at the event], an oversized camouflage jacket, a fedora, and tan boots, topped with her long, red, curly mane. It's a slightly different look than what I would've expected her to rock, but it works. Dope!

Nicole Richie was spotted also in cut off shorts, but paired them with a less casual printed tunic, strappy wedges, a green cross-body bag, and her signature shades. Cute!

Electro singer/rapper Rye Rye [M.I.A.'s protégé], who is known for her ensembles including different prints and textures, didn't stray from her usual, arriving at the music festival in an African-print tank, leopard print shorts and black boots.

Usher looked fly over the weekend in casual outfits including jeans, shorts, tees, and sneakers, but what caught my eye were his variety of shades! I want to steal the pair on the right. Dope.

Lauryn & Erykah dressed in their usual eclectic ensembles with layering and big, bold jewelry. They look beautifully crazy...and that's fine. Dope are the ones with their own unique sense of style!

Trends Your Spring '11 Closet Needs

Wedges are the kind of heel you want this Spring! Pictured above are some higher priced ones, mainly Jeffrey Campbell and L.A.M.B, but for those of us without a job [raises hand], there's stores like Aldo, Bakers, and Asos. Click here, here, and here for their selection of wedges!

Bright Bags

Bags of all vibrant spring-y colors are in for this season. The handbags are fun and chic necessities to an everyday outfit, and the clutches can add a pop to any outfit for a night out!

Off the Shoulder Tops

A dressy top that's already designed to be off the shoulder is great for a date or party, but if you just want to make a shirt you already have off the shoulder, graphic tees are the perfect candidate! Urban Outfitters has some cute tops here and so does Delia's here.

Nude Shoes

Nude pumps are a great alternative for the basic black pumps because they keep your outfit light and springy and elongate your legs! Just find a cute pair closest to your skin tone and you'll be set. Every girl needs a pair in their closet and I'm currently on the search for some flats and pumps!

70s - Inspired

The 70s trends have come back full force with modern twists and variations. My personal fav 70s items are wide-legged jeans and blouses with big bows, as seen above on the models dressed in designs by Derek Lam and Marc Jacobs. I love the clean simplicity!

Color Blocking

Love this palette for Spring '11 Gucci

And finally, the most prominent trend this Spring. Color Blocking is when you wear items of solid colors [no prints] with items of completely different hues. It's funky, chic, and different when done correctly. Here are the rules:

1) Three is the magic number
2) Don’t be afraid to clash
3) Keep colors in the same family
4) Be loud and proud
5) Keep it simple
Using complimentary color combos and just starting simple [like wearing different color blazers and tops] are an easy way to start rocking this trend. Have fun!

Who I'm Interning for this Summer: Tracy Reese!

As I announced yesterday, I have been blessed with a fashion internship with one of the top African-American Designers of our time, Tracy Reese. I'm ecstatic to move up to New York in May to join her team, work hard, learn more about her company, and get an inside view of the Fashion Industry! All of my hard work and persistence has paid off and I'm sure this will be one of the best experiences of my life. I'll definitely keep you updated throughout the course of the internship.
To get a better look of Ms. Reese's lines, here are some photos of various celebs (including Michelle Obama) wearing her designs. Click here for her website and click here for the blog post I did on her Fall 2011 Collection!
