Te Amo, Rihanna

Rihanna dropped her edgy look for a minute and dressed classy for a night out at an Ireland night club. $855 Louboutin spiked Engine pumps. Lookin' good Rih!

Dope or Nope: Ciara, Kelly, Jada, & Angela

Cargo Pants and Louboutin Caged Booties...hmmm what y'all think?

o_o  I don't care if she was trying to do the whole vintage thing...this will never work!

I'm not sure if it's the angle of the shot but something is making Jada look a lot shorter. I think I would love the outfit without the little jacket.

Nice, casual look for a chill day of shopping. Definitely her own style!
Trend Alert: Mixed Prints

Although I rarely try this, I really like mixed prints done well. Here are a couple of tips to pull it off:

Make sure you have a base color throughout the outfit. That is, make sure one color repeats in every piece. Rihanna has on a Dolce and Gabanna Two Toned Leopard Print dress, and I haven't seen colored leopard print in a while...but I think it works on her.

Runway shots from Basso and Broke Spring/Summer 2010 collection. Combine loose prints with structured prints, i.e. flowers & stripes. Isn't the grey & black skirt on the bottom gorgeous? This trend isn't only for the runway loves, these looks are obviously ready-to-wear and even though they would be a bit surprising I could see someone wearing this on the street!

Kanye & his entourage...bahhaaahaa! I see they all have style...but they don't exactly seem like the kind of people he'd be hanging around. Anywho, I'm drawn to the one with the green jacket and tight leopard pants...I like that combo.. for a girl! Well maybe not the sweater and bow tie, but something to that effect. Blend small designs with large prints, i.e. animal print with geometric patterns. Also, think of stripes as neutrals that you can pair with anything.

My personal advice is: if you dress bold, be bold. Don't go and wear a cute outfit then be scared of what everybody thinks. Yes, check before you leave that you don't look crazy & that you're following the guidelines. But once that's done, be confident and rock it! :)
Perhaps after I do a little more shopping, I'll post some pics of me trying it out.

H&M Fashion Against AIDS

H&M launched its 3rd Fashion Against AIDS campaign on May 20th, which includes a festival-inspired theme. 25% of the sales (sold through the Divided youth departments) will be donated to youth HIV/AIDS awareness projects! I did a little shopping at H&M the other day and got some really cute pieces - gave me a good excuse to go spend more money. It's like shopping for a cause! :)

More Amateur Sketches...

I have a little Moleskin book [all the greats had one] that I carry around in my purse daily so that I can sketch designs from inspiration when I'm out. These designs aren't much for creativity, but they're decent. I don't often share my sketches with y'all because I know I need to get my drawing skills up! [haha] But I will spare some of my pride just to give you guys a look at what I like and a little peep into my mind...
This one is pretty much just following today's trend with the accentuated shoulders...

This is definitely a piece derived completely from my imagination...pretty different

So I've recently become a huge fan of African prints. The shoulder petals on this dress [which should've been drawn a little longer lol] would be in the print on the bottom, or maybe another print with more color. And i was even thinking maybe some black mesh sewn over each individual petal and some tiny black beads outlining the petals for a different kind of look. Oh yea, and scratch that mesh part on the bottom and keep that the same fabric as the rest of the dress lol

This is probably my favorite right now. Again, the print [loveeee!] on the bottom would be for the top and i was thinking about putting a zipper for closure on the back of it... but you probably don't want to risk some jerk unzipping it while you're out in public lol. The pants would be black or tan.

Yessss, I am well aware that I'm extra:) But being extra has never failed me, it's always put me a step ahead haha but yea this is the design of my blog t-shirt that I really hope to get made this summer. Some of my close friends had some input for the design but it was mostly all me. I have a few different ways I would like to go about the design, like paint & stencil for "COLOR", embroidery for the rest, or embroidery for all of it but different colors for "COLOR". Maybe I can make each one differently. I want them in this slouchy shirt style and in a regular t-shirt.

Andre Leon Talley's 5 Tips on Making it in Fashion

So I was doing my daily perusal through the blogs I read and came across a fabulous post in Fashion Bomb Daily. Those of you that have some real interest in fashion know that Andre Leon Talley is the "African-American fashion authority", Vogue editor-at-large, and recent judge on America's Next Top Model. I was pleased to find out that Mr. Talley was born and raised in my hometown, Durham, NC, and has made his way to be the prominent Black voice in the fashion industry. He is a tremendous inspiration for me and I'd love to meet him one day :)

Behold, his top 5 tips:
1.
Learn French. At age 28, AndrĂ© was on staff at the Paris Bureau of Women’s Wear Daily, which apparently offered him unique opportunities. He explains, “When I got to Paris and I could speak French, I know how much it helped me to establish relationships with Karl Lagerfeld, with the late Yves St. Laurent. French, it just helps you if you’re in fashion. The French people started style.”

2. Don’t do a reality TV show. Though he was on the judges panel of America’s Next Top Model, he did so as an afterthought after years of hard work. He says, “I think reality TV is a terrible thing. I am a victim of having watched Dancing With the Stars this season. I was watching and I realized, you know, I would never put myself in the position that these people do, of humiliation, to be rejected.”
3. Handwrite your letters. He says, “When I have interns, I always say handwritten thank-you notes can make a difference. People remember that — not an e-mail, a handwritten note in an envelope.” *Editorial note: It’s good to write one handwritten letter a month. Buy yourself some nice stationary and get to it. You’ll be head and shoulders above the rest.

4. Don’t shy away from doing menial or poorly paid tasks. AndrĂ© started off as a receptionist at Andy Warhol’s Interview Magazine, and was paid $50 a week to take messages, answer the phone, and pick up Andy’s lunch. He adds, “People have started their careers picking up pens on the floor for great designers, interning for designers, and having menial tasks.”
5. Good etiquette and grooming are key. Learn your pleases and thankyous, and always dress to impress. He says, “The kind of tools you need to be a successful [are] punctuality, grace, manners, speaking properly to people, looking well-groomed, [and being] focused.”

Isn't he amazing? :)

Random celeb fashion: Angela & Rihanna

The dress is..interesting [side eye] but these Fendi Tulle-Embellished Sandals are gorgeous! Price? A whopping $1,195. Not sure if I would ever spend that much on shoes [rich or broke]. I feel like the money could go towards something more important.

This shirt is cute! But the hat is bothering me...not trying to be negative but it seems like she's trying a little too hard.

NYLON & Youtube Young Hollywood Party

If you know me, you know that I absolutely love Nylon magazine because it's fresh and different! Here are a few photos of some celeb fashion that caught my eye...

Christina Millian is looking urban with a denim blazer, casual tank, and mini skirt. Can't say that I love it, but it's cute.

I reallyyy like the yellow polka dot dress. I seem to be attracted to quirky things like that:)
Amber Rose..this is nice & pretty simple. The magenta lip liner & pale pink lipstick combo is interesting...upcoming make up trend maybe ? we'll see.

I like how this isn't too revealing but sexy/chic at the same time!
